HDR Tutorial: JPEG to HDR

In this HDR tutorial, instead of using three RAW photos taken with different exposure settings, we used a technique that only requires the use of one JPEG image, an HDR software, and an image-editing software–a technique that is highly useful for photographers who either doesn’t have cameras that are capable of taking photos, or wants to use an action shot to make an HDR photo.

So, in this series of posts, we well tell you how we turned this:

Pretty cool, don’t you think?

So here’s a list of what we’ll need:

  • A suitable JPEG photo
  • Photomatix Pro 3.1
  • Adobe Photoshop


The photo we used in this tutorial can be downloaded here. You can opt to use another image to HDR; however, since photos behave differently when processed, you might have to figure out what settings will look best for your chosen picture.
In the next post, we’ll discuss using the HDR software Photomatix Pro 3.1 to turn our JPG image to a beautiful HDR photo.

    Hi,
    Where is the 2nd half of the HDR tutorial “JPG to HDR”?
    I got to the end and it says it will tell you how to compbine 3 resulting images in the next post.
    Is it ready yet?
