Outback Photography with Karen Brook

Karen Brook’s photography showcases the Australian outback in shades of red, blue, green and all the local colour of its pubs, festivals and locals.

Brook is most notably the official photographer for the Birdsville Races and with the next event pending in September this year, her photos might just be the drawcard to get you driving the 2000km (or more depending where you live) to the outback town for a horse race in the desert.

Fabulous Outback Photography

The team at Blue Dog sure know how to capture the essence of the Australian outback with their images of sand dunes, gibbers, rivers, floodplains, spinifex, beef cattle, channel country and inland wetlands.

Nick and Danielle Lancaster are the working directors of the Blue Dog operation and run tours to some of their favourite spots in Queensland.

One of their most celebrated works is the 84 page “Out Around the Bulloo” photographic book featuring images from a corner of outback Queensland – the Bulloo Shire. The celebrated book captures the geographic character of the area plus some of the human and animal inhabitants too.

Summer Festival of Photography

Queensland newspaper Summer Festival of Photography competition.

The newspaper began the festival at the beginning of summer (November 2009) with a series of contestable categories such as “Summer Holidays”, “Water“. The final category is “Your Choice” and closes on February 1.

For some categories the paper received more than 1200 entries and the quality of many shots has made it difficult for judges to choose a winner and limit the award honours. Top entrants have their image mounted in a frame while the best 50 entries from each category go into the Hall of Fame and the winner receives a Summer Festival of Photography certificate.

All the images are meant to celebrate Queensland and the state’s amateur photographers have revealed much of Queensland’s wild, crawling, beautiful and watery sides.
