Nikon Unveils Two New Cameras–the D300s and the D3000

There has been much buzz and rumors about yet-to-be-released new Nikon did not disappoint. The company unveiled two new camera models, the D300s and the D3000, yesterday.

Here’s a few details about the products that Nikon released:

D300s

According to Nikon, the D300s isn’t really a full new model, but rather an upgrade of the D300. Nicole Silverman says “It’s an upgrade version of the D300, or basically a refresh of that camera with the movie feature.”

Still, here are a few changes from the D300 that are worth noting:

  • HD video imaging: this camera can capture 720p HD at 24 frames per second—perfect for photographers who’d like to try their skills at video making, too. The D300s also has an input jack for stereo microphones, so users can record sound with the videos, too. There’s a built-in mic volume control, too, which has three…

So yes, I’ve been caught. Looking at the new Canon 5D MarkII. I was walking around the city with a old friend of mine on Monday at lunchtime who runs a magazine here in Australia called Bluff magazine. He was wanting some advise on some new camera gear and I was more than happy to assist, given that I now had an opportunity to look through some of the larger retailers in the CBD. These certainly can’t compare to anything in the US or Asia. And they certainly aren’t a B&H!

So anyway, we walked around the major stores and we ended up looking more closely to the Canon range of Digital SLRs – not much bias from me … (cough cough). This is what I feel more comfortable in chatting about. And I do know whats on offer more so than any other range.

Let me fast forward a little to me. I was showing my friend…

I am so amazed at the awesome footage that is coming through these days with the high-speed cameras. Rob posted a great article a little while ago with HD slow motion footage.

This particular slow motion footage is from Discovery.

See what you think of this…

Photography and video convergence, just ask Esquire.com

If you ever thought that its time for photography and video convergence, will its here and its coming thick and fast. You would all know that the Canon and Nikon ranges have added to their lines of cameras the ability to shoot HD video. Some might say its not that great, but other have really taken to it.

However, Esquire magazine just released its June edition, and it will feature the very sexy Megan Fox on its cover. Guess what? It was captured with a video camera. Holy crap. What could get better than seeing her in motion. hmmmm!

It’s not an everyday camera, but the RED One. The guys that produce RED have a huge arsenal of gear that is driving this convergence to the next level. They focus on building very high resolution tools for the digital cinema market.

What kind of tools? How about a handheld camera that gets 5k resolution, all while taking digital stills…

This is part of a NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) 2009 show reel for the new HD, high speed camera system from I-Movix. It’s the only true HD 1000fps broadcast capable camera in the market. This thing blows the doors to creativity wide open. That’s especially true in the world of sports where all of the interesting stuff takes place in a fraction of a second.

Can you imagine what will happen when they have one of these at every game? All of those can’t miss moments will be recorded in perfect slow motion at a ridiculously high resolution. T.V. stations will start building up huge archives of the most important ones. I don’t know. When I saw this video and how creatively it was done, it truly has made me see the huge potential digital video has in the future.

Pretty soon, the amateur videographer will be able to do as much as a professional, and for a…
