This morning, I woke up a little earlier than usual for a Sunday morning. Maybe it was my mind telling me to get up and do some work – who knows? I’ve been thinking a lot about my place in the world as a photographer. What makes me and this company, Blinq Photography, unique? What can we do to make a real mark on this world?

Nobody likes getting into this mindset. It can be a little unsettling. You think you’re going in the right direction, but you then you feel like you’re following the rules a little too much. There’s always a time and a place for a re-evaluation, and that’s what this morning felt like. I think it’s time to try something different – something I would never, in my right mind, consider. Sometimes you just have to burst out the box with something unbelievable in order to move on to the next level. It isn’t just like that in photography. I deal with this in everything I’ve strived for.

So, I was reading my daily blogs and emails with my short black next to me. The house was quite. All things seemed to be fairly normal until I started watching this video. I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll leave you to watch it.

All I can say is Zack Arias definitely knows what this is like. It’s good to see someone else going through the same issues most professional photographers struggle with. Yes, to the outside world we’re the best there is, but you’ll never be 100% satisfied with your work in your own mind. If you aren’t progressing, if you aren’t doing at least one different thing each day, then the thing you love so much starts to lose its spark. So you re-evaluate. You step back.

What a great morning for it.
