Industrial Design And Apple’s Jonathan Ive – Be Objectified
Today I was searching for something. Actually I was looking for something on Johathan Ive, the master designer at Apple. He has created so many fantastic products, but the most impressive design for me is the new Macbook Pro body. Instead, I found a fascinating documentary about industrial design. It’s called Objectified.
I can hear you saying now, all the moaning and groaning, what the hell am I talking about design and Macbooks? Well, I feel that design is so important in photography. They are the creators of those fantastic simple lines. The ones that we all like to shoot. And of course, in Jonathan’s case, the very elegant Macbook. Who can fault the great looking design work of the Macbook unibody?
I personally draw inspiration from some of these people. It allows me to see a different perspective of the elements they work with and the materials they use. Also, it can show me what they were seeing when it all began. If you can’t look outside of your own filed for inspiration, where else where will you go? I try to find it wherever someone’s making design decisions.
Anyway, I stumbled over this fantastic looking independent movie that has so many great industrial designers in it. The movie is call Objectified. Here is a snippet from the website.
Objectified is a documentary about industrial design; it’s about the manufactured objects we surround ourselves with, and the people who make them. On an average day, each of us uses hundreds of objects. (Don’t believe it? Start counting: alarm clock, light switch, faucet, shampoo bottle, toothbrush, razor…) Who makes all these things, and why do they look and feel the way they do? All of these objects are “designed,” but how can good design make them, and our lives, better?
Here is a small taste of Objectified…
