There has been much buzz and rumors about yet-to-be-released new Nikon DSLRs, and a lot of photographers will be glad to know that Nikon did not disappoint. The company unveiled two new camera models, the D300s and the D3000, yesterday.

Here’s a few details about the products that Nikon released:

According to Nikon, the D300s isn’t really a full new model, but rather an upgrade of the D300. Nicole Silverman says “It’s an upgrade version of the D300, or basically a refresh of that camera with the movie feature.”

Still, here are a few changes from the D300 that are worth noting:

  • HD video imaging: this camera can capture 720p HD at 24 frames per second—perfect for photographers who’d like to try their skills at video making, too. The D300s also has an input jack for stereo microphones, so users can record sound with the videos, too. There’s a built-in mic volume control, too, which has three levels:  low, medium, and high.
  • Faster than the D300: it can shoot up to 7 frames per second at 12.3 megapixels.
  • Wider flash range: the D300s’ flash has a range of up to 16mm—a big improvement from D300’s 12m range.
  • Shadow adjustments: this camera has an Active D-lighting bracketing feature, which lets the user take several photos with various shadow adjustments. This way, the photographer can choose which photo is has the best setting.
  • Additional memory slot: a practical feature for a camera that takes both still photos and videos. One slot is for CompactFlash and the other is for SD. This way, photos can be stored in one memory card, and videos in the other.

The D3000 Nikon’s most compact camera yet. Aimed at photography beginners and enthusiasts, it has simple, easy-to-use features that will definitely be popular for people who just likes going out and taking shots without having to learn complicated settings, and without using long lenses. This camera has a potential for succeeding the most popular Nikon model of all time, the Nikon D40.

The Nikon D3000 has:

  • No video feature: Nikon emphasized the simplicity of the new model, a camera perfect for photographers who are only starting out. The D3000 has a 10.2-megapixel, 3 frames per second shooting speed. It uses and EXPEED image processor and has an 11-point autofocus system.
  • A Guide Mode: Previously known as Assist Images. It provides intuitive, step-by-step instructions to make using the camera easier for beginners. It can be accessed through the mode dial on top of the camera. This feature shows the user a variety of situations, and informs the photographer of the best settings he can use for that scene.
  • Comes in a kit: the camera comes complete with a basic Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens. So when you get this package, you are ready to start shooting.
