This maybe old news for some, but Canon has introduced two new lenses; Tilt and Shift, the TS-E 17mm f/4L and TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, which allow you to correct the the image’s perspective. The first completely new, the goal becomes more angular offset so far, and the second is a renewed version of the old TS-E 24mm, and some photographers were not entirely satisfied.

For those who aren’t yet acquainted, tilt-shift photography is useful for correcting unwanted perspectives in landscape photos, creating “fake miniatures” using real subjects photographed from above, and getting the entire scene into focus when you are taking a picture of a landscape. One of my favorite sports photographers, Water Iooss, is known for using Tilt-shift photography in his portraits.

Fake miniatures are pretty hilarious too. You have to setup your camera so from a faraway perspective and then use your tilt-shift lens to blur the top and the bottom of the image. It’s an effect that makes it look like your image has a shallow depth of field -as if you were using a macro lens! You have to see some of these images. Too funny.

These two new lenses are made specifically for professional photographers of architecture and landscapes. The diaphragms are circular, and they allow for greater control of the focal plane. It’s very similar to the techniques of large format cameras. Unlike their predecessors in this range, Canon also made the following developments with these lenses:

* Now you can change the direction of travel (and off balance) in an independent way.
* The target consists of new optical elements and low dispersion effect to reduce distortion and chromatic aberrations and to optimize the focusing mechanism.
* New SWC coating to minimize reflections and artifacts.

With this new release, Canon already has career goals in the Tilt and Shift focal 17mm, 24mm, 45mm and 90mm.
