It hasn’t been all that long since Nikon has released the D300s—which, until now, has been unchallenged as the only DSLR that can take videos as well as still shots—and already Canon has released a new model that, based from its specs (as well as some user reviews), can definitely give the D300s a good kick in the gut: the Canon EOS 7D.

Looks like the Canon EOS 7D is the result of every pro and semi-pro’s camera feature wishlist:

  • Full HD video with manual exposure in 24, 25 or 30 frames per second
  • A tougher, more rugged, weatherproof body than 5D
  • Customizable, multifunction buttons
  • Dedicated button for switching to RAW+JPEG mode
  • Electronic axis level

Sounds like Canon took every photographer’s secret wish and packaged it into one camera, huh? And that’s not all. The 7D also uses Dual DIGIC IV image processors, which makes it the first model outside of the pro 1Ds line to have dual image processors for fast burst shooting: 8FPS with 94-shot JPEG bursts (124 with UDMA card) or 15 RAW shots, all at full resolution with 14-bit A/D conversion.

Here are some sample photos taken with the 7D (photos from Canon Japan):

The 7D also can also take videos, which will be discussed in full detail in our next post.
