Melbourne Shoot With Ironman Matt White And Luke Bell

We just posted the video from our photo shoot with 220 Triathlon Magazine. Being a Melbourne based sports photographer, it seems like I barely ever get to capture the athletes just sitting down and being themselves. This shoot was a nice change of pace.

As we setup shop in the restaurant, we noticed quite a few interesting backgrounds and pieces of furniture to use in the shoot. We were primarily looking for a wide range colors and textures, going from bright reds to shiny silvers while incorporating smooth leather and burberry surfaces. We found that certain materials worked really well with the clothing the athletes were wearing,…

This past Novemeber, we worked with Zoggs to come up with a few shots that really show off what these goggles can do for professional triathletes. If you don’t already know about Zoggs, I’ll bring you up to speed.

Most of the athletes I’ve spoken with love two things about these goggles. They’re happy to finally have a goggle that fits their face and they really like the way the goggles reduce the sun’s glare. Zoggs actually use polarised filters, so they’re really effective when you’re swimming and the sun is reflecting off of the water.

So we set out to show off these features during the Zoggs photo shoot. We really wanted to get some up close and personal images of the sun reflecting off of the goggles while our athletes (Mitch Robbins and Craig Withers) are in the middle of an intense swim. It actually wasn’t that difficult because, much like any polarised pair of sunglasses, Zoggs are quite…

This is the second VIEW video in the series of three that was made some time ago while we were shooting the APL folks.

I was really happy to chat about the tools that we use just about everyday. Some of them are critical to our everyday operations and some are only critical during some instances – but the underlying story here is that they are all critical to our business. Some may also say that I love my gadgets, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide.

As I mentioned in my other VIEW post, I had sat down and worked through what is critical to my business, including business processors and the technology used to drive us. Here in this short video I talk about the business tools that are very important to our success as a leading photography business.

We identified the following items as critical to our business;

1. Financial software. Not spreadsheets or some unreliable…

I started thinking of what I’d like to tell someone when asked “what does Blinq photography do?” I suppose there is a really simple answer to that – photography. But putting the simple answer aside, I wanted to tell the story about the business. What excites my clients and of course, me.

In this short, 3 minute or so video, I explain where we have come from, what we love doing and what we mean to our people and clients.

When I play this video back, its amazing to hear what I have said. It was filmed in one take and I didn’t have any lines or prompts. So it was all real. Kind of daunting when I do play it back though.

So many things still stand true for me. And that is we love and enjoy photographing professional sports people in the studio or on location. There is something about them that brings something more to the table….

Results: Shuffle Magazine And APL Shoot.

The results are in. The final product is here and waiting.

I’m really excited to have been involved with the new make-over that Shuffle magazine has gone through. It looks fantastic. Martin and his team have certainly lifted the APL into a new era. I’d personlly like to thank Charlie Elias, Paul Georges, Emma Grace, Rodney Davidson, Shivan Abdine and Danny Taylor who were fantastic throughout the whole day of shooting.

For more information on the day and the equipment that was used please see my other post – VIEW: Behind the scenes.

We have finally been able to record our first of many VIEW:behind the scenes videos. After many attempts at finding the right time, location and client that would allow us to shoot a video of us just doing our thing.  Many thanks also to the great folks at Luxe Studios

To give you a bit of an idea, we arrived on set a little before 8am. It was a full day in studio with a new client to shoot their feature story and front cover. I’ll be posting up the final product once they have signed off and have gone to print.

It was by far one of our best days on a set like this. The guys that we worked with were awesome to say the least.

And for all the techo guys people that ask me what we used, here is a more extensive breakdown of all the gear.

Canon 1Ds Mk3

Canon 40D

Canon 70-200mm f2.8
