Times are changing and Getty is aiming to meet the demands of consumers by providing quality images at affordable prices.  Getty has taken their image collections and archives and created new image sizes to meet the needs of the web and email marketing projects.  Their new image file sizes are very small starting at 170 pixels, 280 pixels and 430 pixels. These images are designed specifically for mobile and online use.  Prices range from $5.00 to $35.00.  Their new approach is comprised of both elements of stock and microstock photography.  This new approach may raise concerns for some photographers and embrace others.  Nevertheless, Getty has certainly diversified their photography business.

Here are some differences between stock photography and microstock photography.

Stock photography Microstock photography These are existing photos that are licensed for specific uses for creative assignments. Consists of images that are uploaded via the internet Accept images primarily from professional photographers Accept images from professionals, amateurs and hobby photographers Distributors sell images to publishers, advertising agencies, graphic artists Sell royal-free images at very low prices Examples: Shutterstock Examples: iStockphoto,  stockxchange
